The British poet and writer Robert Graves moved to Mallorca in 1929. He settled in Deiá where he later built a house called Can Alluny. However, he had to leave the island at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and was not able to return to Mallorca until after the end of World War II, almost a decade later. He moved back in May of 1946 with his new family and made Can Alluny his permanent home until his death in 1985.

The house was acquired by the Foundation in 2005 and turned into a museum, open to the public all year round, five days a week. It has been adpated to house a special exhibition and the garden has been restored to its 1930s layout. The house is just a few minutes by foot from the centre of Deiá on the road to Sóller.
